Amazon lays off Silicon Valley engineers at Lab126 after Fire Phone failure, – Albany Business Review
Some Amazon employees are feeling the heat for the company’s failed Fire Phone. Dozens of Silicon Valley-based engineers were laid off in recent weeks due to the commercial and critical failure of the company’s entry into the smartphone market.
The engineers were housed within Amazon’s Cupertino, California-based Lab126 hardware unit, according to the Wall Street Journal. The unit is responsible for consumer electronics such as the Kindle, Echo and Fire Tablet.The company is also halting or slowing down on some projects, including the 14-inch tablet codenamed Project Cairo, a projector codenamed Shimmer, and a project called Nitro that converts handwriting into digital shopping lists.For the full story, visit the Silicon Valley Business Journal.
