As Keurig faces fire, Portland coffee mainstay rolls out compostable pods

Boyd’s Coffee has rolled out what it says is the world’s first fully compostable single-serve beverage pod.
The Portland company said the pod is compatible with Keurig 2.0 brewers. That’s significant because Keurig has received plenty of criticism — including from the company’s founder himself— for allegedly harming the environment.
Boyd’s said its single-serve pod is made from bio-based renewable resources. That includes the ring of the pod, which is made from coffee chaff, or the skin of the coffee bean that comes off during roasting.
