Darfon launches BESV electric bicycles
Darfon Electronics has launched electric bicycles for sale under own brand BESV in the Europe, Japan and Taiwan markets, according to company chairman Andy Su.
Unlike conventional electric bicycles powered by lead-acid batteries, BESV bikes are powered by electric motors in combination with riders’ pedaling, with smart monitoring of pedaling and road conditions to control optimal output of electric power, Su said.
There is global demand for about 2.6 million electric bicycles a year currently, with 1.6 million units in Europe and about 500,000 units in Japan, Su indicated. Darfon will launch BESV electric bicycles in the China and US markets in the second half of 2015, Su said. While initial BESV models are for the high-end market segment, Darfon will launch mid-range models for female consumers and hiking models specifically for the US market, Su indicated.
Darfon has 80-85% of consolidated revenues coming from keyboards used in notebooks, tablets and desktops currently and expects the revenue proportion to drop to about 70% in 2016.
