GE is officially a Boston company
As of Monday, General Electric is officially a Massachusetts-based company, and the biggest by far in terms of employees, market value, revenue and a host of other metrics. To get a better sense of just how big GE (NYSE: GE) is, consider the following statistics:Market cap: $281 billion: That’s greater than the market cap of the next six largest companies in Massachusetts as of Friday — namely Biogen, Thermo Fisher Corp., TJX Cos Inc., American Tower Corp, Shire plc and Raytheon Co. (EMC, which is due to be acquired by Dell, was not included). The combined value of those six companies as of Friday afternoon was $262 billion — still $19 billion short of GE’s value. Another way to look at it: It’s worth three times the size of Harvard University’s endowment ($37.6 billion).
