Lockheed Martin in lead to buy United Technologies unit
Aviation giant Lockheed Martin is the top candidate to buy the Sikorsky helicopter unit from United Technologies Corp. in a deal valued at more than $8 billion, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Sikorsky, best known for its Black Hawk helicopters, builds and tests the aircraft on a campus it shares with Pratt & Whitney in northwestern Palm Beach County. The company is the one of the world’s largest helicopter makers.
According to the WSJ, a deal between Lockheed and UTC could be reached in the coming days. If the deal goes through, the purchase will be the largest since Lockheed bought Martin Marietta Corp. for roughly $10 billion nearly two decades ago.
