Phoenix-based Avnet shuttering facility in Texas
Avnet Inc. plans to lay off 62 employees as it closes its Coppell, Texas, facility.
The Phoenix-based electronics and IT company announced the plans in a recent Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notice. The facility currently employs 71 people.
Avnet (NYSE: AVT) plans to keep six employees to help with wrap up-duties before laying them off Sept. 23. The remaining three will stay on board, but work from home or at Avnet’s facility in Richardson, Texas.
“To remain responsive to the needs of our customers and suppliers, Avnet has made a business decision to streamline its eCycling operations and consolidate all eCycling capabilities into its Centerpoint Value-added Services Center in Columbus, Ohio,” the company stated in a release, adding the decision affects the closure of facilities in Coppell and Austin and the discontinuation of eCycling operations in Atlanta. “We will continue to review market needs and align our resources to achieve specific performance goals that are in line with Avnet’s long-term business objectives.”
The closure also could impact Avnet’s contract workers employed by Secure America and Regal Staffing Services. It is unclear whether the staffing companies will have alternative assignments for those affected.
