Raleigh-based wearable technology firm Valencell raises $2.6M
While the sensors are already in headphones by companies such as LG Electronics, new, secret partnerships seem to always be in the works, according to company founder Steve LeBoeuf. He says the company has more than 50 nondisclosure agreements. And that’s on top of public partnerships with the likes of Jabra, Scosche, SMS Audio, iRiver and Intel. What separates Valencell’s PerformTek from other sensors – such as what’s in your FitBit – is the focus on accuracy, LeBoeuf has said.
The latest round, a mixture of equity, debt and options, comes from five investors.Last year, the company, which operates out of a lab space near North Hills, disclosed that it had raised nearly $7 million from the likes of the WSJ Joshua Fund, TDF Ventures, True Ventures and Best Buy Capital.Valencell executives were not immediately available to comment on the latest funding.
