Seeing the Future of Machine Vision Technology
In last month’s editorial, we examined the latest trends in the IoT, including likely directions for the near and medium term. What was left unexplored, however, were implications stemming from its future growth. The possibilities that can be inferred from the proliferation of connected devices in our daily personal and professional lives are likely to impose revolutionary changes on politics, culture, and even our sense of identity.
Take, for instance, the concept of the Smart Home. Some of the automated features that are being envisioned include ovens that can cook dishes, lights and digital displays (such as HDTV or desktop computing screens) that are able to detect and react to gestures, and security systems that can distinguish the homeowner from guests, visitors, or intruders and act accordingly.
