Sony Unveils New Xperia Z4
On Monday, a new flagship Xperia Z4 handset debut by Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE), with an aluminum frame and a 5.2 inch screen, still showing the signs that company is in the smartphone lineup even after cutting back on its pressurized mobile operations.
The company concentrates on reducing costs instead of enlarging its mobile market and still requires investment in marketing and new products to sustain its brand and refrain from a quicker decline. The company said that, around the middle of the year, the Xperia Z4 will be available in three colors in Japan.
However, the company has not specified a launch date yet, with any details provided for price or its carrier partners. The new high end handset will be a little thinner with 6.9mm form than the prior Z3. It features a Snapdragon 810 processor which clocks 2GHz but is 64-bit and eight-core. The handset is embedded with a rear-facing 20.7 megapixels camera, a wide angle lens oriented front facing camera, 3GB of RAM and Android 5.0 Lollipop running on it. The company is acknowledged for its dust and water resistant devices, and the same trait is delivered for Xperia Z4.
It was rumoured that the company is preparing for an exit from the smartphone space, but now apparently it is in the way to get stablized with its new unveil. The Xperia Z4 is another stimulating product, while the Xperia Z3 did not provided anticipated response. Now, it is hard for the company to expect the same technique will dig it out of rigidity faced on mobile.
Hiroki Totoki, last year appointed in the company to revolve the mobile unit, said that the company is committed to target the upper end of the market where competitors such as Apple Inc and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd lead. He told a news conference that prices of smartphones range from about $100 to $1,400 at the upper end and they are committed to focus the upper half of that.
