Supply chains prepping for increase in 2-in-1 tablet orders from China
Supply chains are prepping for an increase in orders for 2-in-1 tablets from China, according to industry sources.
Bay Trail-T CR Windows 2-in-1 tablets priced under US$250 are expected to be a key target for vendors in China throughout 2015, with new units expected to be released in the second half of 2015.
Vendors including Lenovo and Asustek Computer are expected to release relevant products, aimed not only for the China market but also the US and Europe in retail chains such as Wal-Mart and Carrefour.
Meanwhile, Intel is planning to partner with Google and notebook players including Asustek Computer, Acer, Hewlett-Packard (HP), Lenovo, Quanta Computer and Pegatron Technology to launch 2-in-1 Chromebooks in the second quarter, the sources said.
Digitimes Research also believes that trends show white-box players are mainly choosing Bay Trail-T CR processors for their 2-in-1 devices. Most players have planned new Windows 2-in-1s for mass shipments in the second quarter, priced between US$150-250, and these devices are expected to pose a great threat to first-tier brand vendors’ similar products in emerging markets.
There will be 221.4 million tablets shipped globally in 2015, slipping 11.9% on year, according to Digitimes Research.
