Taiwan market: Tablet sales to reach 1.2M units in 2015
Sales of tablets in the Taiwan markets are expected to decline 14% on year to 1.2 million units in 2015 due to dwindling demand and impact from the rising popularity of large-size smartphones, according to sources at local retail channels.
Additionally, demand for tables in the Taiwan market is also slowing down as tablets have a longer replacement cycle as compared to smartphones, which have an average replacement cycle of six months, said the sources.
Defying unfavorable market conditions, China-based Huawei still plans to launch its new tablet, the MediaPad X2, in Taiwan in July, according to sources at Huawei’s local sales agent.
Huawei sold 15,000 units of its MediaPad X1 in the local market in 2014 and looks to sell more for the MediaPad X2 in 2015, said the agent.
Huawei’s global shipments of tablets reached 1.3 million units in the first quarter of 2015, increasing 210% from a year earlier period as Huawei has managed to ship tablets to more markets in Europe, the Middle East and Southeast Asia, revealed the agnet.
