Taiwan ODMs to snap up all orders for next generation iPhone
Taiwan-based handset ODMs will continue to snap up all orders for production of next generation iPhone devices despite recent market rumors indicating that Apple plans to add a China-based ODM to its iPhone production partner list, according to sources at Taiwan’s handset supply chain.
Apple reportedly aims to utilize the supply chain in China by optimizing the competitive production cost available there, while extending an olive branch to China in order to ramp up sales of its products in the market, said the sources.
But judging from Apple’s long-term cooperation relationships with Taiwan-based OEMs/ODMs, from Mac to MacBook, iPod to iPad, iPhone and recently Apple Watch, as well as the manufacturing, production integration and global logistics capability demonstrated by Taiwan makers, Apple is unlikely to switch its orders to China in the short- to medium-term future, commented the sources.
In fact, Apple is likely to add Taiwan-based Wistron as the third production partner for iPhone devices, in addition to current partners Foxconn Electronics and Pegatron, the sources revealed.
