Wistron invests in Arbor Technology
Wistron has announced an investment of NT$246 million (US$7.8 million) in Arbor Technology for a 10.69% stake to become the largest corporate shareholder. Arbor makes industrial embedded/networking computing devices and ruggedized computing devices.
Compal Electronics also recently invested in industrial PC (IPC) player Avalue, showing that ODMs have been aggressively expanding into the IPC industry.
In June 2014, Wistron and Arbor formed a strategic partnership to expand into the Internet of Things (IoT) market, combining Wistron’s supply chain and global after-sales service resources as well as experience in R&D and manufacturing with Arbor’s experience in IPC product marketing, services and manufacturing.
Since the IPC industry is seeing business opportunities taken by consumer handheld devices with custom-designed apps, partnerships with ODMs are a way for IPC players to reduce their costs.
